Some repairs to the flood-damaged Meadow River Rail Trail may need to wait until spring so as not to disrupt a critical time in the life of an endangered species of freshwater mussel. A 50,000-pound steel beam from one of the trail’s trestles, which was washed into the river during June’s flood, is nto able to be moved during the mussel breeding season from October to March, explained Doug Hyton, project leader for the Meadow River Rail Trail.
