CHARMCO (WVDN) – The Greenbrier West girls’ basketball team continued its string of early season success with a 59-19 victory over longtime rival Richwood Tuesday night, Jan. 10. The Cavaliers improved their record to 10-2 and bolstered their No. 6 ranking in the Associated Press sports writers’ poll.
Sophomore standout Preslee Treadway outscored the Lumberjacks 11-2 in the first quarter alone. Treadway finished the night with 21 points, her highest output of the 2022-23 season and only one point shy of her career high. Treadway added six rebounds and five steals. The Cavaliers led 18-2 at the end of the first quarter.
Ava Barclay poured in 13 points for the Cavaliers. Barclay has now scored double digits in all three career games against Richwood. Maddy Fields continued to be a reliable scorer for the Cavaliers with a 12-point night. Fields also had five rebounds and seven steals while going 2-2 from the foul line.
Senior Meagan Poticher had a 4-point, five-rebound outing. Brilee Redden chipped in with 4 points, two rebounds and four steals. The remainder of Cavaliers to score were Hannah Sweet with 2, Brooklyn Adkins with 2 and Samantha Holliday with 1.
The Cavaliers out distanced the Lumberjacks in the second half, outscoring Richwood 33-12.
Addison Dudley led Richwood with 8 points. Baylee Jarrett and Carlie Dillard added 4 points each for the Lumberjacks.
Greenbrier West travels to Tygarts Valley on Friday, Jan. 13. The Cavaliers defeated the Bulldogs 72-29 on Dec. 12, 2022. Richwood hosts Mount View Friday night.
