Shelby Tomlinson, 76, of Lewisburg, WV, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea, WV, after a long and courageous battle with COPD.
Born in Ronceverte on January 22, 1940, she was the daughter of Frank and Dorothy Turner.
She retired from work as a receptionist and bookkeeper at the Fairlea Animal Hospital. She was a regular attendee of Calvary Methodist Church at Richlands, WV, when able and was a member of the Calvary Church Circle. She was an avid bingo player and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Elizabeth Vance, Louise Hood, and Joyce Coffman; and brothers, William “Bud” Ridgeway and Jimmy Turner.
Shelby is survived by her loving husband and “soulmate” of 30 years, Dr. John R. Tomlinson Sr.; sons, Warren Douglas Sampson (Nellie) of Ronceverte, WV, David Vance Sampson (Kathy) of Lewisburg, and Stephen “Pick” Sampson (Tip) of Lewisburg; daughters, Cynthia Evans (Chris) and Cathy Pittsenbarger (Lee) of Ronceverte; sisters, Peggy Holliday of Ronceverte, Bonnie Demo (Joe) of Michigan, Dottie Hoke of Fairlea, and Sandy Bucklen (Vernon) of Lewisburg; three stepdaughters, Karen Farrell (Andy) of Raleigh, NC, Barbara Lee (Harvey) of Denver, CO, and Christine Revitte (Rob) of Monkton, MD; one stepson, Dr. John R. Tomlinson Jr. (Susie) of Asbury, WV; nine grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg with Pastor Emory Hanna officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Memorial Gardens at Lewisburg.
Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Friday, May 20, at the funeral home.
