Gary Wayne Hawkins, 28, of Stevensville, MD, died Saturday, May 30, 2015, at John Hopkins in Baltimore, MD.
He was born July 14, 1986, in Maryland, the son of Edward W. Hawkins Jr. and wife, Adena, of Covington, VA, and Mary Elizabeth Brown and husband, Wil, of Baltimore.
He was a 2005 graduate of Greenbrier East High School in Fairlea, WV, and moved to Stevensville, MD, where he resided with his grandparents, Neal and Veronia Moore. Gary worked as a neck fret II specialist with Paul Reed Smith Guitars in Stevensville. He loved his work, his family, his friends, and co-workers. Gary was an avid gamer and enjoyed, of course, Guitar Hero. He also enjoyed cooking, spending time with his friends, and music.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Jack Daniel Hawkins of Vernon, AL, and William Charles Hawkins of Lewisburg, WV; three stepsisters, Kayla Reid of Chester, MD, and Kelsey and Katie Abell of Tennessee; his paternal grandmother, Veronia Moore of Florida; paternal grandfather, Edward W. Hawkins Sr. and wife, Judy, of Mississippi; step grandparents, Emerson and Diana Okes of West Virginia and Dale and Diane Bladen of West Virginia; special uncle, Troy Hawkins of Pennsylvania; aunts, Jackie Hawkins of Kent Island, MD, and Tina Buttner of Baltimore; and two special aunts who helped raise Gary, Sue Ellen Trull and Troyce Gottwald of Alabama.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at 7 PM at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road, Chester, MD, where relatives and friends may call from 5:30-7 PM. Interment will be held privately.
