John U. Brown, 80, of Roanoke, VA, formerly of Union, WV, and Lewisburg, WV, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015, at his home in Roanoke surrounded by family and friends.
Born January 9, 1935, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Hazel Wallace Brown.
John graduated from Union High School in Union and attended Bluefield Business School. He was the owner of
John U. Brown Trucking Co. of Union for over 40 years. He was a member of the Monroe Lodge #77 A.F.&A.M. at Union and the Union Lions Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kitty Hager Brown; and one son, Kenneth Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Dixon Brown of Roanoke; one son, Rusty Brown and wife, Bev, of Union; one stepdaughter, Lynn Burke of Goode, VA; one stepson, Mark Perry of Renick, WV; nieces, Becky Keaddle of Alderson and Vicki Korte of Tallahassee, FL; special cousin, Nancy Sydnor of Richmond, VA; “almost daughter,” Cheryl Saher of Franklin, VA; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2015, at 2 PM at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union with the Rev. Allen Whitt, the Rev. Melissa Shortridge, and Becky Keaddle officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery in Union.
Friends may call Saturday from 12:30 PM until time of services at 2 PM at the funeral home in Union.
John’s wife would like to thank their neighbors of Muirfield Circle for their kindness, particularly Barbara Smith and Robert Pickett.
