Paul Chester McCallister Jr., 65, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at his home in Alderson, WV, following a long illness.
Born April 5, 1949, in Alderson, he was the son of the late Paul Chester McCallister Sr. and the late Virginia Smith McCallister.
Mr. McCallister was a bridge inspector, retiring after 31 years of services with the West Virginia Department of Transportation, Division of Highways, District 9, Lewisburg, WV. He was also a self-employed carpenter. He was a 1967 graduate of Smoot High School in Smoot, WV. He was a 50 plus year member of the Feamster Freewill Baptist Church in Alderson, where he served as a deacon of the church and as a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the NRA for many years and was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish with his family, and especially loved to teach his grandchildren to hunt and fish. Mr. McCallister loved to spend time with his family and will always be remembered as a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alan McCallister and Ross McCallister.
Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Sharon Waid McCallister of Alderson; seven children, Paul A. McCallister and wife, Joy, of Mocksville, NC, Darrell W. McCallister and wife, Angela, of Alderson, Lisa J. Scott of Lewisburg, Rachel Williams and her husband, David, of Houston, TX, David E. Holliday Jr. and wife, Leanora, of Summersville, SC, Regina G. Nichols and husband, Thomas, of Alderson and Darren M. Holliday and wife, Amanda, of White Sulphur Springs, WV; a brother, Mark A. McCallister and wife, Pam, of Alderson; a sister, Judy A. Baker and husband, Joe, of Alderson, who was also his very special friend and brother-in-law; an uncle, Russell Smith and wife, Sara, of Olney, MD; a special cousin, James Carter and wife, Lynn, of Richmond, VA; devoted family friend, Hazel Wingler Smith of Des Moines, IA; 26 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 1, 2015, at 2 PM at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel in Alderson with the Rev. Dr. James Cox and Pastor Audie Sorg officiating. Burial will follow at the Alderson Cemetery in Alderson.
Friends may call Saturday, February 28, from 7-9 PM at the funeral home in Alderson.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
