Judith Wease Surbaugh, 73, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014, in New Hampshire following an extended illness.
Those who knew Judy will recall her as someone who enjoyed the simple pleasure of sitting in her swing, watching the Greenbrier River quietly flow past, and as someone who welcomed all visitors to “The River” to come and sit with her by the fire under the night sky. They also will remember that, beyond all else, her family was her most valued possession. She loved them with all her heart, and although her health failed her in recent years, that love never wavered.
She did everything she could to make sure that they were safe and happy. That came in ways big and small ‒ a hug, a home-cooked meal, a place to stay, or even a secretly placed $20 bill in a teenager’s pocket. Throughout the years, the woman known as Judy, Mother, and Grandy, brought a great deal of happiness to so many, and her big heart will be greatly missed. May she rest in peace.
Judy was preceded in death by her father, Russell; mother, Evelyn; and sister, Pat.
She is survived by her daughter, Marsha; her son, Russ; five grandchildren, Josh, Brandy, Chris, Cooper, and Alex; and six great-grandchildren, Kadance, Griffin, Michael, Ethan, Alyssa, and Brock.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Connor-Healy Funeral Home in Manchester, NH, is in charge of arrangements.
