Stella Marie Barnwell, 88, of White Sulphur Springs, WV, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2014, at Peyton’s Hospice House in Fairlea, WV, surrounded by family after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Stella was the last of the Morgan brothers and sisters. She was born March 12, 1926, in Ronceverte, WV, to Grover and Minerva Morgan.
Beloved wife of Hugh Barnwell, Stella spend her life as a homemaker, raising two children. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and was loved by many. Stella enjoyed cooking and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She was a member of Greenbrier Baptist Church of Ronceverte.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Hugh Barnwell III, whom she was married to for nearly 65 years; a son, Steve Barnwell (Laura) of Lynchburg, VA; daughter, Betsy Wiles (Demian) of Ronceverte; grandchildren, Stacey O’Dell (Mitch) of White Sulphur Springs, Nathaniel Stover of Charleston, WV, Chelsea, Brianna, and Parker Barnwell of Lynchburg, and Aidan Wiles of Ronceverte; great-grandchildren include Kaylee and Owyn O’Dell of White Sulphur Springs; many nephews and nieces; and countless relatives and friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at 1 PM at Greenbrier Baptist Church with Pastor Matthew T. Dillon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The immediate family will have a visitation from 11 AM-12 PM and public visitation from 12 PM until funeral time.
Shanklin Funeral Home in White Sulphur Springs is serving the family.
