Mamie Conger Copeland, 93, of Alderson, WV, passed away at the White Sulphur Springs Genesis Care Facility in White Sulphur Springs, WV, on Sunday, October 19, 2014.

Born December 22, 1920, in Athens, GA, she was the daughter of the late Dave and Sara Holland Conger.

Mamie was a member of the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church in Alderson, where she served on the pulpit committee, as treasurer of the Ruth Thurmond Circle, and as a deaconess. She was active in civic affairs and was a 50-year member of the Alderson Women’s Club, Mother’s Club, Friends of the Library, Alderson Fourth of July Committee, Renaissance Committee, and Alderson VFW.

She enjoyed reading and solving crossword puzzles. She was an avid bridge player, playing in the Thursday and Wednesday clubs, once a month Friday night club, and Monday night bridge, until her health prevented her participation. Mamie loved her heavenly Father, family, church, and community, and she worked diligently to improve all aspects of live around her.

Mamie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. “Bob” Copeland in 1976; an infant brother; and her brother, Dave Conger and wife, Florence.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Godby and husband, Frank, of Alderson; son, Robert E. “Cope” Copeland Jr. and wife, Sharol, of Vienna, VA; and eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, namely Frank Godby and wife, Kellie, of Alderson and their children, Tracie Godby Slack and husband, Ryan, of Berkeley Springs, WV, Sarah Godby of Lewisburg, WV, and Franklin Godby and wife, Tiffany, of Alderson; Jimmy Godby of Alderson and his daughter, Rosemary Godby of Alderson; Joe Godby and companion, Julie Brewster, of Alderson and Joe’s son, Thomas Godby, of Alderson; Becky Godby of Lewisburg; Carl Godby and wife, Kristi, of Lewisburg and their children, Will and James Henry; Sam Godby and wife, Tracey, of Union, WV; Kimberly Copeland Mislock and husband, Steve, of Virginia and their children, Madelyn, Ben, James Henry, and Charlotte; and Rob Copeland and wife, Kate, of Virginia and their children, Caroline “Callie,” Charles, and Elizabeth Ann “Libby.”

Donations of sympathy may be made to Old Greenbrier Baptist Church, Alderson Community Center, and Alderson Public Library.

Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Sunday, November 2, 2014, and the funeral services are scheduled from Monday, November 3, at 1 PM at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Graveside interment will be at the Alderson Cemetery in Alderson following the funeral services.
Mamie’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
