Gladys Frances Osborne Hanson, 88, of Crawley, WV, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, after a short illness with her family by her side.
Born March 12, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Roma Osborne.
Gladys graduated from Rupert High School and retired from the Federal Prison in Alderson, WV.
She was a member of the Soule Chapel United Methodist Church. Gladys was referred to and known by many simply as Grandma Hanson. She loved cookouts and family reunions. She was an avid WVU football and basketball fan. If she couldn’t watch the games on TV, you could find her listening to them on the radio. She cherished her farm and enjoyed spending time on her front porch.
She never met a stranger, always had a smile on her face, and always made time to listen to others. She loved all of her animals, especially her two little dogs, Honey and Bonnie. One of her greatest joys was being a grandmother. She adored all of her grandchildren and called her four great-grandchildren “Grandma’s Little Angels.” She will be dearly missed by her family, but we know mothers and grandmothers never really leave us, they continue to watch over us from above.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Layton Osborne, Lacy Osborne, Dale Osborne, and Melvin Osborne; and a sister, Teresa Jones.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 68 years, Harold C. Hanson; one son, Dwight Hanson and wife, Ruth, of Crawley; one sister, Kathleen Flint of Athens, WV; three grandchildren, Bryan Hanson and wife, Kristan, of Billings, MT, Leigh Ann Hudson and husband, Jason, of Alderson, and Jaime Burns and husband, Dennis, of Crawley; four great-grandchildren, Lauren Hanson, Logan Hudson, Ava Burns, and Emily Hudson; a special nephew, Stacy Jiles and wife, Karen, of Cheyenne, WY; and numerous other relatives and friends who loved her.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Friday, October 17, 2014, at Smathers Funeral Chapel Inc. in Rainelle, WV.
Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, October 18, at 1 PM with Garnett O’Dell officiating.
Burial will follow at the James Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bryan Hanson, Jason Hudson, Dennis Burns, Stacy Jiles, Aaron Helmick, and Clay Helmick.
