Janet Lee Hopkins, 57, of Alderson, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV, following a short illness.

Born March 10, 1957, in Union, WV, she was the daughter of Pastor Mary Catherine Johnson Hopkins of Alderson and the late John Everette Hopkins Sr.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Carl Emmanuel Hopkins.

Ms. Hopkins was a retired paralegal, having worked at the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., and Cutler and Pickering Law Firm in Washington,

D.C. She then moved to California, where she was employed by Marriott as a supervisor. 

Ms. Hopkins was a 1975 graduate of Greenbrier East High School in Fairlea, WV. She received an associate degree from Morris Harvey College in Charleston, WV, and graduated from Bluefield State College, Bluefield, WV, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice. Ms. Hopkins was a veteran, having served our country in the United States Army. She was a member of the Greater Emmanuel Apostolic Church in Alderson, and she was also an ordained minister.

Ms. Hopkins loved to read and enjoyed studying history. She also enjoyed reading and writing poetry and was in the process of authoring a book. Ms. Hopkins loved to spend time with her family, especially with her nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She will always be remembered for her generosity toward others.

Survivors include her mother, Pastor Mary Catherine Johnson Hopkins of Alderson; four brothers, John E. Hopkins Jr. and wife, Margaret, of Lawton, OK, Bill Hopkins and wife, Mary Beth, of Alderson, Jerry Hopkins and wife, Melissa, of Alderson, and Timothy Hopkins and fiancee, Betty Brookman, of Alderson; three nieces, Nicole Hopkins and fiance, Alex Alvarez, of Harrisonburg, VA, Ebony Hopkins of Alderson, and Vanessa Carter and husband, Bryan, of Ronceverte, WV; two nephews, Joshua Hopkins and fiancee, Chelsie Webb, of Ronceverte and Quwohn Hopkins of Alderson; five grandnieces; four grandnephews; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at 1 PM at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel in Alderson with the Rev. Greg Scott officiating. Private interment will be held at the Orchard Cemetery in Sinks Grove, WV.

Friends may call Wednesday, May 28, from 12-1 PM at the funeral home in Alderson.

Lobban Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
