Arthur Alexander May, 70, formerly of Manassas, VA, and resident of Lewisburg, WV, died Friday, May 16, 2014.
He was born August 29, 1943, to Arthur Glover May and Esther Ruth May in New York City, NY.
Married to Donna Hill in 1969, they shared 45 years of marriage. He was the father of five, Christina Cox, Alexander May, Lorena May, Sondra May, and John Arthur May. He leaves a sister, Suzanne Sylvester, and twin brother, Lewis Glover May, and was an adored grandfather of 14 grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Mr. May was a graduate of Colgate University and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was a captain in the U.S. Air Force. He flew the H43 Husky in Vietnam, a rescue and recovery helicopter. He was also a pilot in command of the C-5. He, thereafter, continued his career as a skilled pilot with the Teamsters and private charters.
He enjoyed playing golf and fishing, but most of all, he enjoyed his family. There was nothing more important to him than spending time with his children and grandchildren. Arthur May left us with his wife by his side to the very end.
“Our family chain is broken, nothing seems the same, but as God calls one by one, the links shall join again.” – We love you husband, brother, dad, grandpa, and uncle.
Arthur, you held my hand and my heart through the many years we shared and for now, we part. I cherish our memories until we meet again. I will miss you, my husband.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg with Father Chapin officiating.
