Wilda Boyd VanMetre, 96, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at her home in Lewisburg, WV.
She was born in Berkeley Springs, WV, and raised in Martinsburg, WV.
After her marriage, she lived for many years on the VanMetre farm in Berkeley County, WV, before moving to Lewisburg in 1954. She was an extraordinary mother, grandmother, and homemaker well known for her cooking, sewing, knitting, and gardening.
Wilda was a long-time member of PEO Chapter F and Old Stone Presbyterian Church, where she enjoyed Presbyterian Women activities, particularly working at the American Thrift Shop.
Wilda was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James M. VanMetre III; her daughters, Sandra V. Judy and Dorothy Kay VanMetre; daughter-in-law, Linda Holt VanMetre; four sisters; and one brother.
She is survived by her son, James M. VanMetre IV and special friend, Cathy Ingram; her daughter, Julie V. Tate and husband, Robert; son-in-law, Jerry N. Judy; six grandchildren, Lisa Judy Metchick, Judy VanMetre Poore, Karen VanMetre Arbuckle, David N. Judy, James Boyd “Jeb” Tate, and Robert “Lee” Tate; great-grandchildren, Jaelynn C. Parks, Victoria “Tori” Parks, Samuel D. Poore, Jamie L. Tate, and Aiden N. Metchick; and her brother, Ned L. Boyd.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 1 PM at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg with the Rev. Dr. Dexter Taylor officiating.
Visitations at the funeral home will be on Friday, May 9, from 6-8 PM and an hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Interment to follow at Rosewood Cemetery.
