Shelby Jean Highlander, 74, of Rupert, WV, passed away late Saturday night, April 5, 2014, at her home following a long illness.

Born February 12, 1940, at Rupert, she was the daughter of the late Shelby H. and Carrie F. Smith Rose.

Shelby was a homemaker and will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Selby Ray Highlander in June of 2007; and two brothers, Elvin Smith and Raymond Rose.

Survivors include a daughter, Debbie L. Highlander of Rupert; three sons, William B. Highlander of Rupert, Jerry R. Highlander of Rupert, and Stanley L. Highlander of Lewisburg, WV; two sisters, Loretta Stanley of Rupert and Rose Defibaugh of Lewisburg; two brothers, Harper H. Rose of Rupert and Billy W. Smith of Rupert; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are scheduled for Sunday, May 4, 2014, at 2 PM at Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville, WV, with Pastor Ruth Scarberry officiating. The body is to be cremated, and ashes buried with her husband at Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville.

The family requests donations of sympathy be made to Wellspring of Rupert, General Delivery, Rupert, WV 25984.
