It was a difficult day for residents of Fayette County, yesterday, Monday, March 1, as two tragic situations resulted in as many deaths.
The first death was that of Norman Robert Harlan II, of Montgomery.
Shortly after midnight, the Fayette County 911 Center was notified by a train-engineer who advised that his train may have struck an individual lying on the track. A search began immediately, and Harlan’s body was located several hours later by first responders.
In a statement released on Monday evening, Fayette County Chief Deputy Rod Perdue II said, “Norman Robert Harlan II, of Montgomery, was pronounced dead at the scene. Harlan was apparently suffering from emotional/psychological problems at the time of the incident.”
In an unrelated incident, later Wednesday afternoon, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department was notified of an ATV accident which had occurred in the Jenkins Fork-area of Beckwith.
According to a statement from Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley, “Responders found that a subject had died of injuries sustained from a crash while operating a rail buggy. The identity of the victim is not being released at this time, but we will verify that it is a Fayette County resident.”
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department is asking that anyone with information regarding either of these tragic events to please contact them at 304-574-3590, or through their Facebook page.
