The Monroe County Board of Education met on the evening of Thursday, February 25 to discuss the county’s academic-plan going forward for the remainder of the school year. During the meeting, the board approved a motion that all kindergarten through twelfth-grade students would attend in-person learning five-days per week beginning the week of Monday, March 1. Pre-K students will attend in-person learning on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. This does not pertain to virtual students, as their current academic schedule will remain the same.
With an infection rate of 12.38% and a percent positive of 2.34%, Monroe County is currently designated as green on the Department of Health and Human Resources color-coded County Alert System map. A total of 42 laboratory COVID-19 tests were performed by county health officials on Thursday, February 25, bringing the seven-day testing average to 68-residents per day. At present, there are 46 active cases of the virus in Monroe County, and the daily positivity-rate is 2.38%.
In other news, Monroe County Schools also announced the winners of the Young Writers Contest.
Through a social media post, dated Thursday, February 25, Monroe County school officials said, “Congratulations to the county winners of the Young Writers Contest!”
Grayson Johnson’s story, “Josh Bagel”, was the winner for grades three and four. Teegan Shelton’s story, “Lock Down”, was the winner for grades five and six. Justis Hiner’s story, “The Chess Game”, was the winner for grades seven and eight. Cheyanne Collins’ story, “All in My Head”, was the winner for grades nine and ten. And Sara Ferguson’s story, “The Last Performance”, was the winner for grades eleven and twelve.
