Robert Cantley Jr., 80, of Alderson, WV, formerly of Cocoa, FL, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014, at his home following a long illness.

Born November 23, 1933, in Edwright, WV, he was the son of the late Robert Earl Cantley Sr. and the late Edna Faye Pettry Cantley.

Mr. Cantley was retired from Wuesthoff Memorial Hospital in Rockledge, FL. Prior to his employment at Wuesthoff Memorial Hospital, he was employed at the power plant near Annapolis, MD, and was also a former owner and operator of the River Market at Pence Springs, WV. He was a United States Navy veteran, having served his country during the Korean conflict. Mr. Cantley was of the Pentecostal faith and his favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Wade; four brothers, Melvin Cantley, Dayton Cantley, Elbert Cantley, and Leo Cantley; a sister-in-law, Gail Cantley; and a brother-in-law, Jim Wade.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Shelbie, of Alderson; two sons, James of Cocoa and Charles of Cocoa; two daughters, Crystal of Cocoa and Melissa of Talcott, WV; five grandchildren, Christopher, Barbara, Tiffany, Charles Jr., and Shaylah; a great-grandson, Clayton; two sisters, Peggy Hoover and husband, Jack, of Charlotte Hall, MD, and Janet Buchanan and husband, John, of Frankford, WV; three sisters-in-law, Leota Cantley of Pence Springs, Margaret Cantley of Clayton, WV, and Virginia Kidd of Forest Hill, WV; many nieces and nephews; and his special little furbuddy, Chloe.

Graveside services and burial will be on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at 2:30 PM at the Haven of Rest Cemetery in Pence Springs with the Rev. Roger Persinger officiating.

Friends may call Tuesday, from 12-2 PM at the Lobban Funeral Home in Alderson.

Serving as pallbearers will be James Wines, Charles Wines, Gary Braden Jr., Dayton Cantley, Roger Erskine, and Fred Thompson.

Lobban Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
