Lewisburg is moving forward with its involvement in a project to improve a baseball field at Hollowell Park allowing it to qualify to host regional Little League baseball tournaments.
The topic of improving the senior baseball field in Hollowell Park first came up at the January 2021 Lewisburg City Council meeting.
At the meeting, John Lynch of Lynch Construction appeared before the council on behalf of the Central Greenbrier Little League. His presentation was to request funding for the purpose of enhancing the field. This would entail replacing the sand-based field, which is currently being used, with turf.
According to Lynch’s initial proposal, this change would allow for fewer game cancellations and reduce maintenance costs. The sand that currently makes up the field often requires repairs after heavy rains. Turf would eliminate many of these issues.
After discussions with different committees, including City Council and the Lewisburg Parks Commission, the city is moving forward with the project.
Lewisburg Mayor Beverly White said they are preparing for the next step, which is to “advertise for the work to be done.”
Details and requirements for the project will be included in bid advertisements. Anyone interested in taking on the project must follow the directions included in the ad to submit a bid.
“We are excited to see this project moving forward,” White said.
