A Greenbrier County man was arrested on the afternoon of Friday, Feb. 19, after law enforcement received a tip regarding a possible parole violation.
James Dean Martin, 31, of Rupert, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
Shortly after noon on Friday, Feb. 19, officers responded to Martin’s residence after receiving reports that parolee Michael Sullivan, 32, of Summers County was present in the home. Upon their arrival, Martin allegedly provided officers with permission to search the home.
According to the criminal complaint, during the course of their search, officers located a loaded Taurus G25 9mm pistol in Martin’s bedroom. The pistol was fully loaded, with seven-rounds in the clip and one round in the chamber. Officers then located a bag containing marijuana and another bag containing what Martin allegedly stated was fentanyl.
Martin has two prior felony convictions: second-degree burglary in South Carolina on August 30, 2013, and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm in West Virginia on December 5, 2019.
Both Sullivan and Martin are currently being held in Southern Regional Jail. Martin is being held on a $10,000 cash-bond or surety. Sullivan is not eligible for bail at this time.
