A house fire was reported in Peterstown, Monroe County, at approximately 6:00 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday, February 17.
The fire, which completely consumed the residence at the corner of Rich Creek Valley Road and Little Rich Creek Valley Road, was eventually extinguished shortly after 11:00 a.m. However, rescue workers located a body in what remained of the home. The Ballard, Lindside and Peterstown Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the call.
In a statement released via social media on Wednesday afternoon, officials from the Fire Marshal’s office said, “An 86-year-old male has died in a house fire this morning in Peterstown, Monroe County. The cause of the fire could not be determined due to the extent of damage to the home. NFI (no further information).”
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, along with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.
