Lewisburg West Virginia has a new podiatrist offering high-level, specialty care to local citizens. Dr. Christopher Majewski has moved into the area to bring his expertise in all things feet to southern West Virginia. He makes this move after having run a successful practice in Maryland for more than 15 years.
Before becoming a podiatrist, Majewski was a professional soccer player. After high school, he received a full athletic scholarship to play soccer at George Washington University where he later graduated with honors. He went on to become the youngest member of the US men’s Olympic soccer team. After sustaining a serious, career-ending injury to his foot, Majewski’s time as a professional soccer player came to a close.
After having surgery for the injury, he began to think “this is something I could see a future in, helping people with similar foot-related injuries and problems that would otherwise change their life.”
While he was on injured reserve, he began to complete the requisites necessary to pursue a career as a podiatrist. He then studied at Temple University where he would graduate with honors. From there, he was accepted into an elite surgical residency program at the University of Pennsylvania.
After completing his education, Majewski set up shop in Maryland where he practiced for quite a few years. Now, he has come to West Virginia to provide the area with his passion and extensive knowledge in caring for feet.
The accomplished podiatrist is affectionately known as “Dr. Juice.”
Majewski is also a certified weight loss coach.
In addition to being a renowned soccer player and a skilled podiatrist, Majewski is also an author. He has written several books on common foot problems and caring for feet as well as several on the topic of weight loss. Some of his titles include “The Foot Book – Your Guide to Healthy Feet”; “The Truth About..” series, which includes “The Truth About Heel Pain,” “The Truth About Fungal Toenails,” “The Truth About Athletes Foot” and “The Truth About Diabetic Foot Care.”
Majewski says the worst thing a person can do for their feet is to take them for granted. The feet are a vital part of the human body and their care is often get overlooked. Most people make regular appointments with a dentist, an ophthalmologist and their family doctor. Unfortunately, the same is rarely true for a podiatrist. Depending on a person’s medical conditions, it may be necessary to visit a podiatrist as regularly as a dentist. For example, someone with diabetes or cardiovascular problems needs to take especially good care of their feet. Another common reason to see a podiatrist regularly is arthritis.
Outside of these medical conditions, that are a number of reasons why someone would need to visit a podiatrist. This includes injuries such as fractures, sprains, and skin wounds. Nail infections and foot infections are also high on the list. Other possibilities include blisters, calluses, warts, ingrown toenails, bunions, heel pain, hammertoes, and flat feet.
One specialty that Majewski has brought to the area is laser treatment for toenail fungus, which he says is around 95% effective. This is a relatively new treatment that is not yet offered by many podiatrists. According to Majewski, approximately 50% of people over the age of 50 have toenail fungus. Some people may not even realize that they have it.
Podiatry is not a common specialty in southern West Virginia. Majewski said he chose to come to Lewisburg because there seemed to be a need that he could fill. He said a contributing factor is that he and his wife made the decision to get away from the big city.
He said they had been looking for a place to set up shop in West Virginia and Lewisburg “reminded me a lot of a nice little comfortable hometown. We both felt very comfortable around Lewisburg.”
