The Lewisburg City Council met via Zoom for their monthly meeting on Feb. 16.
The governing board continued its discussion of planned unit developments (PUD) and the necessary amendments to the city’s zoning ordinance. These changes would allow for the coexistence of commercial and residential properties.
The first reading of the proposed ordinance changes took place at the January meeting along with a public hearing. After the success of the first reading, the intent for the February meeting served as the second reading. However, due to the extensive changes proposed for the ordinance, the city attorney advised that they should revert back to a first reading.
Due to the changes, the council made the decision to table the reading until the March meeting. The reason for this is to allow for the advertisement of a public hearing. Hosting a public hearing allows for input from the community on the changes. The council can then address any questions or concerns from the public.
To prepare for the first reading the following month, the council discussed the changes and solidified necessary clarification to the language used in the ordinance. All necessary changes were noted and further discussion was put on hold until the first reading at the next meeting.
In other business, plans for the improvement of Hollowell Park continues to progress. This includes the proposed improvements to the ball field with hopes of having it completed in time for Little League games.
