Greenbrier East Spartan Volleyball player Madison Boswell recently committed to continue her athletic career at West Virginia Wesleyan.
The Lady Bobcats are coached by Nancy Wheeler and the school sits peacefully in Buckhannon, WV.
Boswell is 4th in Greenbrier East history with over 1,000 kills on the court.
She made her first visit to the campus last summer and pretty much had the idea that was where she would spend her next four years. From the looks of the school to the nursing program, Boswell felt right at home.
“WV Wesleyan is a beautiful campus. When I went up there and visited, it just felt right. It felt like home and that’s the most important thing you need to worry about when choosing a college. It also has an amazing nursing program, and lastly the coaches there are amazing. They are so nice and open about everything and were there for me the whole way through the process in making my decision,” Boswell said.
The second-team All-State selection had planned on visiting several schools, but when Covid hit, everything came to a screeching halt. Still, Boswell was able to put her list of schools together.
“Well, before Covid I had planned visits for multiple schools, which were Wheeling University, Fairmont State University, Alderson Broaddus and West Liberty. But then Covid happened and everyone was sent home so they were postponed. I ended up narrowing down my options and then I finally came down to my top two, which were West Liberty University and West Virginia Wesleyan,” she said.
When Boswell made her commitment, she said not only the coaches but also her future teammates were thrilled for her.
“Both coaches were very excited that I chose Wesleyan. Along the way, they really showed me how much they wanted me. They always messaged me and checked up on me and always reminded me to think Bobcat,” Boswell stated.
“Once I told them the news my phone was blown up with messages from them and players on the team. They were so happy,” she continued.
Speaking of those coaches, head coach Nancy Wheeler and assistant Jennifer Hefner have remained in contact with Boswell ever since her visit to the school.
“I have met Coach Wheeler one time. Since then, I have kept in contact except for the dead period for coaches, which is where college coaches aren’t allowed to speak with recruits, and Coach Hefner, the assistant coach I met at the visit. She also came and watched two of my games and gave me my offer at Greenbrier East,” Boswell said.
Coach Wheeler, also had high praise for her incoming recruit.
“Madison Boswell is a great athlete. She comes from a very respected high school and club volleyball experience. I especially love her attacking form, speed of her arm swing and her overall volleyball IQ,” Wheeler said.
“She is one of the “gems” of West Virginia. I love to recruit local players who love the state of WV. Wesleyan is the perfect fit for Madison. It has great academics, a smaller home-town feel of a college campus and a highly competitive Mountain East Conference. We are so excited to have signed her,” Wheeler concluded.
As of now, Boswell is set to report to Wesleyan this coming fall. She will major in nursing. She is the daughter of Joey and Tamra Boswell.
