The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources has identified 469 new cases of COVID-19 and confirmed 12 additional deaths within the last 24 hours due to complications of the virus.
Among those confirmed deceased are a 68-year-old Marion County woman, a 68-year-old Marion County man, a 67-year-old Hancock County man, a 75-year-old Harrison County man, two 75-year-old Hardy County women, a 92-year-old Ohio County woman, a 78-year-old Morgan County man, a 73-year-old Roane County man, a 50-year-old Cabell County man, am 88-year-old Berkeley County man and an 89-year-old Summers County woman.
In a statement posted on the DHHR’s website, Cabinet Secretary Bill Crouch said, “As we continue to fight against this pandemic, we are devastated by the loss of more West Virginians. The families of these residents are in our thoughts.”
All told, 2,187 West Virginians have succumbed to complications stemming from COVID-19.
At 3.28%, the daily positivity-rate is at a seven-day low. Currently, there are 13,535 active cases of the virus statewide, and the cumulative positivity-rate is 5.59%. Thus far, 115,598 residents have been fully vaccinated against the virus.
Greenbrier, Pocahontas and Monroe Counties are all designated as yellow on the DHHR’s daily color-coded County Alert System map. As of Thursday, Feb. 11, three of West Virginia’s 55 counties remain designated as red.
At present, 364 West Virginians are hospitalized with COVID-19, including 82 receiving treatment in area intensive care units and 40 being assisted through ventilators. The W.Va. DHHR reports that 110,698 residents who had previously been infected with the virus have now recovered.
