Lewisburg Mayor Beverly White signed a proclamation on January 1, honoring the Greater Greenbrier COVID-19 Task Force with its annual volunteer of the year award. The award honors an individual or individuals for their generous contribution of time and service for the betterment of their community.
The city honors citizens who “actively volunteer their time and effort in our community, especially in times of need. Whereas, sometimes the services these volunteers provide are not highly visible but greatly enhance the quality of life in our community.”
The city in their proclamation also states they bestow this honor to these individuals who receive “little recognition for their valuable service.”
Lewisburg bestowed this honor on the Greater Greenbrier COVID-19 Task Force because it “has been monitoring the pandemic very closely since it was announced and has been collecting and disseminating information to help citizens of the Greater Greenbrier area during the pandemic; … provided guidance and community outreach strategies to communities throughout the Greater Greenbrier area.”
The group has also helped the community identify resources from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) such as unemployment benefits, loans, business assistance and more.
The Greater Greenbrier Covid-19 Task Force, led by West Virginia Senator Stephen Baldwin, is comprised of members from the following organizations: the Greenbrier County Health Department, the Greenbrier County Board of Education, Communities in Schools, United Way 2-1-1, Access to Education/Dinsmore, Rainelle Medical Center, Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Robert C. Byrd Clinic, the Feeding Seniors/Saving Businesses Bimbo Coles & Company Program, the Greater Greenbrier Long-Term Recovery Committee, the Lewisburg Fire Department, the City of Lewisburg, the City of Ronceverte, the City of Alderson, the Committee on Aging, Lewisburg/Fairlea Food Locker, West Virginia Delegate Cindy Lavender-Bowe, West Virginia Delegate Jeff Campbell, Homeland Security & Emergency Management; Seneca Mental Health, High Rocks & the Hub, the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, WVSOM Center for Rural & Community Health, Family Resource Network and the Family Refuge Center.
After listing the group’s many efforts to help the community through the pandemic, the city’s proclamation concluded stating, “Now therefore, I, Beverly White, Mayor of the City of Lewisburg, by the authority vested in me, do hereby recognize the Greater Greenbrier Covid-19 Task Force as the Volunteer of the Year for the year 2020 and in conjunction proclaim January 1, 2021, to be The Greater Greenbrier Covid-19 Task Force Volunteer of the Year Day in Lewisburg. To be observed and recognized in and about the city of Lewisburg by all citizens, residents and organizations for the promotion of volunteerism.”
