The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported 34 additional COVID-19-related deaths on Wednesday, Dec. 30.
Among those confirmed deceased are an 87-year-old Mason County man, a 78-year-old Hancock County man, a 71-year-old Hancock County woman, a 90-year-old Preston County woman, an 82-year-old Cabell County woman, a 93-year-old Ohio County man, a 62-year-old Hancock County woman, a 74-year-old Fayette County woman, an 88-year-old Lewis County County, a 77-year-old Wyoming County woman, a 61-year-old McDowell County woman, a 93-year-old Preston County man, an 81-year-old Hancock County woman, a 71-year-old Ohio County woman, an 81-year-old Boone County woman, an 85-year-old Kanawha County woman, a 72-year-old Raleigh County man, a 33-year-old Summers County woman, a 92-year-old Kanawha County man, an 86-year-old Brooke County woman, a 74-year-old Kanawha County woman, an 88-year-old Logan County man, a 76-year-old Logan County man, an 81-year-old Cabell County man, a 79-year-old Mercer County man, an 81-year-old Brooke County woman, an 82-year-old Hardy County man, a 52-year-old Kanawha County woman, a 63-year-old Kanawha County man, a 95-year-old Monongalia County woman, an 84-year-old Greenbrier County woman, a 91-year-old Jefferson County woman, a 91-year-old Ohio County woman and a 46-year-old Kanawha County man.
The total number of deaths in West Virginia from complications stemming from COVID-19 is 1,318.
There have been 1,452 new cases identified within the last 24 hours, bringing the number of active cases to 24,433. The daily positivity-rate is 11.68% and the cumulative positivity-rate is 4.75%. West Virginia has now received 86,800 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, 37,862 of which have been administered thus far.
At present, 797 West Virginians are hospitalized with COVID-19, 209 of whom are receiving treatment in the intensive care unit, with 93 being assisted with ventilators. The W.Va. DHHR reports that 58,474 residents previously infected with the virus have since recovered.
