Luna, Iris, and Ember Huffman from Girl Scout Troop 37400 completed their Bronze Award, which is a 20-hour community service project. For their project, the girls chose to make an outdoor checker table and seats by repurposing wooden pallets and five-gallon buckets. They chose this project because they like games and wanted to contribute something that other children could enjoy.
The project was completed by disassembling wooden pallets, reconstructing them into a table, and painting a checkerboard on the surface. The seats were made by creating weatherproof seat cushions and attaching them to five-gallon buckets.
Once completed, the items were donated to Davis-Stuart, Inc., a non-profit residential treatment center in Lewisburg serving youth throughout the state. When considering who to donate the items to, Davis-Stuart was an easy decision as the girls’ father was employed there for several years, and the people and mission of Davis-Stuart are very important to him.
