JARRELL
Homer Donald Jarrell, 80, of Alderson, WV, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020 at his home in Alderson, WV.
Born May 8, 1940 in Naoma, WV, he was the son of the late Kyle Marshall and Emma Edith Burnside Jarrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Jo Jarrell.
Mr. Jarrell was a retired school teacher having retired from the Greenbrier East High School Vocational Department in Fairlea, WV, after many years of service. Prior to teaching, he worked for many years as a brick mason and was the owner and operator of a brick masonry business. He was a 1958 graduate of Talcott High School in Talcott, WV, and was a United States Army veteran.
Mr. Jarrell was a member of the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Alderson, WV, where he was a member of the United Methodist Men and the Wesley Sunday School Class. He was an active member of the community and was a faithful supporter and volunteer for the Center for Hope, the Alderson Food Pantry and Thrift Store, and the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church Christmas dinner for God’s people in need.
Mr. Jarrell hunted all of his life and loved the outdoors. He also enjoyed running and competed in numerous 5K races, as well as a couple of half marathons in the area. He loved to spend time with his family and friends, but above all, he cherished his two daughters and sons-in-law, and the love between he and his five grandchildren was immeasurable.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Jarrell Brumfield and her husband, Jon, of Waynesboro, VA, and Janet Jarrell Sulgit and her husband, Andrew, of Athens, WV; five grandchildren, Lauren Hanks and her husband, Jack, of Jacksonville, FL, Christian Brumfield of Corpus Christi, TX, Albert Brumfield of Jacksonville, NC, Jackson Brumfield of Colorado Springs, CO, and Nicholas Brumfield of Waynesboro, VA; a brother, Ralph Jarrell and his wife, Shirley, of Newark, DE; two sisters, Judy Jarrell of Beckley, WV, and Brenda Jarrell of Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 3 p.m. at the Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville, WV, with the Rev. Sam Groves and Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Kanode officiating.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CDC guidelines will be observed, with mask and social distancing encouraged.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jon Brumfield, Andrew Sulgit, Arnold Knapp, Greg Dotson, Donnie White, and Junior Rooker.
