LEWISBURG (WVDN) – The Greenbrier East Spartans football team finished the 2022 campaign at just 4-6 after navigating through a tough schedule with a fairly young team in key positions.

However, the Spartans showed improvement from week to week, and their talent started to show. Now, East has placed some of that talent on the all-conference teams. Last week, four Spartans were selected to the West Virginia all-state teams, and three more have joined the list for all-conference honors.

The Spartans named to the All-Coalfield Conference teams are:

Ian Cline, First Team running back: 1,255 rushing yards, 17 TDs — 230 receiving yards, two TDs;

Lucas McCallister, First Team receiver: 34 receptions, 420 yards, three TDs;

Monquelle Davis, First Team defensive back: 21 tackles, two forced fumbles, fumble recovery;

Jake Pate, First Team defensive back: 63 tackles, two interceptions, TD;

Noah Dotson, First Team punter: 36.1 yards per punt;

Luke Carola, Honorable Mention lineman: 15 tackles on defense; helped team average 193.7 yards rushing per game; and

Aiden Cole, Honorable Mention lineman: helped team average 193.7 yards rushing per game.

This list shows that all these players were very good all season for the Spartans. Four of them are seniors, so only three return next year.

Head coach Ray Lee sees new players take charge and assert themselves as key playmakers every year, and that will be no different next season.
