LEWISBURG (WVDN) – The Greenbrier County commission met in regular session on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
The meeting was attended by Roger Kennedy of Chapman Technical Group and considered the cost overruns of the Meadow River Trail project. Kennedy stated that the commission’s prompt payment on contracts had been appreciated and hoped the contractors including Court Street Construction quickly complete the final punch list as a result.
There were just a very few items that needed a final touch to complete.
He said the over-runs on the bridge replacement were the result of an abutment re-design. The original proposal had included a design for the section that upon excavation was deemed insufficient and redesign had to be done to compensate for the abutment issues.
After this presentation the commission was ready to approve the requested pay-out.
In other business, the commission designated The Greenbrier Valley Economic Development Corporation (GVEDC) as the lead economic development organization for Greenbrier County. This designation now clears the way for a matching grant from the West Virginia Development Office.
Based on population, GVEDC executive director Ruthanna Beezley explained that $1.25 per person determined the size of this matching grant. In Greenbrier County the grant will amount to $41,221.25. Population of the county at this time is 32,977.
Also, Sheriff Bruce Sloan presented to the commission a body camera proposal from the same company that the sheriff’s office had purchased equipment from before, and the commission approved the request for body cameras and supporting equipment and tech for the active personnel of the sheriff’s office.
The total for the body camera package is $352,877.40 and will be paid with the ARCA funds collected during COVID that were set aside for a purpose like this.
