LEWISBURG (WVDN) – On Saturday, Oct. 8, teams from the two Virginias joined the Greenbrier East High School and Eastern Greenbrier Middle School cross country teams for the Spartan Invitational cross country meet.
Runners braved the windy and cold temps to run on the Spartans’ cross-country course on Saturday morning, which begins at the State Fair parking lot, and circles through the woods finishing on the track at Spartan Stadium.
The Eastern Greenbrier Middle School girls finished first in their meet with Neena McClintic taking first place at 11:59.
Top 20 runners Devin Haynes took second; Josie Hanna, fourth; Jillian Styles, fifth; Kiana McClung, 12th; Kate Adkins, 13th; and Emma Vincent, 16th.
The EGMS boys placed second, with top 20 runners being Grayson Adams taking fourth; Joel Troyer, 11th; Colton Utterback, 14th; Grant Proctor, 17th; and Isaac Tincher, 18th.
East girls placed third overall, with top 20 runners Abigail Londeree taking seventh; Abby Dixon taking ninth; Annie Whited taking 11th; Luella Mansheim taking 13th; and Maddie Lilly taking 15th.
East boys took sixth place overall, with Jackson Carter finishing in 17th place.
Overall awards for middle school girls were EGMS, first place; Clifton Middle, second; Oak Hill Middle, third; Pikeview Middle, fourth; and Princeton Junior High, fifth. Incomplete teams included Beckley-Stratton Junior High with two runners, Saint Frances De Sales with two runners, and Peterstown Middle with one runner.
Overall awards for middle school boys were Beckley-Stratton Junior High in first with Vance Lindley taking first overall; EGMS in second; Clifton Middle in third; Oak Hill Middle School in fourth, and Pikeview in fifth. Incomplete teams included Peterstown Middle with four runners and Saint Frances De Sales with two runners.
Overall awards for high school girls were Woodrow Wilson High in first; Alleghany High in second with Kiera Lowman taking first place overall; GEHS, third; Pikeview High, fourth; Princeton High, fifth; and Oak Hill High, sixth. James Monroe was an incomplete team with four runners.
Overall awards for high school boys were Woodrow Wilson, first, with Aiden Kneeland taking first overall; Pikeview, second; Alleghany, third; Oak Hill, fourth; Princeton, fifth; and GEHS, sixth. Monroe was an incomplete team with four runners.
The Spartans will host the cross country regional championship on Thursday, Oct. 20.
