The GFWC Ronceverte Woman’s Club (RWC) held their first meeting, after a summer break, on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Ronceverte Baptist Church fellowship hall.
Twenty-two members attended this meeting. They began the meeting by calling by phone a member who was celebrating her 99th birthday. Everyone wished Betty Ralston a very happy birthday and sang Happy Birthday to her.
The education committee provided the program which was a guest speaker from Greenbrier East High School.
Earlier in the year the RWC had voted to pay the registration for one sophomore student at GEHS to attend the West Virginia Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership program which was held at Marshall University this year.
Peter Furlong was selected to attend. He came to the club’s September meeting and very enthusiastically told the group about his week at HOBY and how it had inspired him to be a volunteer in the area of youth sports which will be a year-long project.
The club also honored two new members, Kitty Barker and Paula McCoy. At the June picnic, two other new members were welcomed, Gail Lambert and Karen Slaven.
The club also made plans for the Meet the Candidates night which was scheduled for Oct. 11 at the Ronceverte Fire House.
The next meeting of the RWC will be on Monday, Oct, 24 at 7 p.m. at the Ronceverte Baptist Church.
This will be the club’s food pantry donations month and Domestic Violence Awareness month. If anyone is interested in joining the Ronceverte Woman’s Club, a civic organization for women interested in supporting their community, schools and library, call 304-647-4890 for further information.
