RUPERT (WVDN) – An elderly woman has been hospitalized after being attacked at her home near Rupert by three individuals.

The 87-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted after she accidentally hit a dog with her car near her home. The dog’s owners then attacked her at her home.

James Ray Highlander, 37, Travis Highlander, 34, and Tanya Davis, 40, were arrested early Thursday morning on September 1. At 2:20 a.m., they were booked into Southern Regional Jail. All three were charged with malicious wounding.

Trooper J.W. Gilkeson of the West Virginia State Police was the arresting officer and stated that the woman was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center for serious injuries received during the attack.

The three suspects were scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday afternoon. As of press time, they each remained in SRJ on $25,000.
