LEWISBURG (WVDN) – Greenbrier East volleyball standout Dia Sauvage was selected as a nominee to represent the Mountain State for the All-USA Today HSSA Girls Rising Star of the Year.
One girl is selected from each state and Washington, D.C., and the award does not limit to just volleyball, but all sports. It’s given to one upperclassmen athlete from each state.
The 2021 first-team all-state selection was shocked and thrilled when she saw she had been selected.
“It was such a surprise and honor to receive the award. I can’t thank my teammates and coaches enough for helping along my journey, without them and the Lord, who allowed me to be blessed with this sport, it wouldn’t have been possible. It is definitely an honor,” Sauvage said.
Her dad, head coach Matt Sauvage has had the pleasure of watching his daughter grow and become the player she is today. He too, was excited and gave her teammates a lot of credit as well.
“Dia has turned into a great player. She has great skills, and her understanding of the game is what really sets her apart. As good of a player as she has become, she is even a better person off the court. Without her teammates, this award would never have been possible. I’m proud of her,” the head coach said.
Both Sauvages begin their 2022 volleyball season next week.
