An acrobat troupe from Tanzania, these performers reach back through 2000 years of East African history and culture to bring you 90 minutes of gravity defying entertainment.
This troupe of acrobats, dancers and musicians gained fame after making it to the semi-finals on America’s Got Talent in 2009.
They have also appeared on The David Letterman Show and performed at Superbowl LIII, NBA halftime shows, and fairs, festivals and schools all over the world.
The troupe is made up of nine acrobats, three dancers and two musicians. All nine acrobats graduated from the Baba Watoto School for Performing Arts, a school known worldwide for teaching and training excellent performers.
Each member has also received instruction from elders in the Bagamoyo Arts and Cultural Institute in order to bring these African traditions to audiences all over the world. Everyone from elementary students in small public schools to large performance halls in major cities across the globe, people are mesmerized by the show.
The performers capture the audience’s imagination and have also been known to meet some audience members and make the show more interactive.
These ancient traditions include drum (ngoma), contortion (ubishi wa solo), dish spinning (sahani inazunguka), human pyramids (mazoezi ya viungo) along with humor, passion and energy.
They also feature juggling, chair balancing, unicycle and bicycle tricks and much more, but you’ll have to attend the show to find out what else these talented performers have to offer.
While the circus-style acrobatics keep the watching crowd enthralled, the accompanying African beats keep the show fast paced and exciting. These elements make Zu Zu African Acrobats one of the most entertaining shows around. The skilled performers keep the crowd entranced as they watch authentic African art come to life in front of them.
Through these acrobats, dancers and musicians, and their commitment to their work, audiences get a chance to appreciate and enjoy a great show while getting to experience art and culture from the other side of the world.
