On Saturday night, July 23, the Greenbrier East graduate class of 2002 got together and had their day-and-a-half reunion to celebrate being out of high school for 20 years.
The group gathered at the Brier Patch Lounge in Lewisburg on Saturday night then on Sunday, celebrated with a family picnic at Dorie Miller Park.
Sarah (Wood) Hampton and Staci (Simmons) Jordan orchestrated the party, and both did a magnificent job at putting it all together over the last several months.
“We had between 50 and 60 people over the weekend,” Hampton said.
“On Saturday night, we met at the Brier Patch with classmates and their guests with a nacho bar, boneless wings, and hours of laughing over high school memories. There was also a small memorial over the classmates we’ve lost,” Hampton said.
Those feelings carried over the next day at the picnic when the classmates’ children got to hang out with each other as well.
“On Sunday, we had a family picnic at Dorie Miller Park with fried chicken, ham, and several sides. It was great to see our kids play together the way some of us did at their ages,” Hampton said proudly.
“A giant thank-you to Staci Simmons Jordan for spearheading this year’s reunion. We really appreciate all her time and efforts to get us together,” she continued.
As for five years down the road for the next milestone, the 25thyear, Hampton said those plans are still a work in progress.
“I don’t know what our plans are for the 25th yet. We tossed around some ideas, but nothing is finalized yet,” she concluded.
Once the plans for the next one are known, they will be posted and updated to the GEHS Class of 2002 Reunion Facebook page.
Also, donations are helpful. The class has their account set up at City National Bank.
