The Williamsburg Community Fair, set for Friday, July 29, and Saturday, July 30, will be filled with music.
Square dancing starts Friday evening in the fire house from 7-9 o’clock with Lou Maiur, caller, and Mudhole Control Band.
Maiur is from Summersville and is the founder and director of the Appalachian Country Cloggers. He’s a dedicated traditional dancer and has spent many years in the preservation of our early traditional culture. He’s known across the country for his ability as a dancer, teacher and old-time square dance caller.
Ninety-two-year-old Maiur will provide entertainment and fun for all dancers at any level of experience.
Saturday, under the big tent, will provide an afternoon of folk, country and gospel music. Starting with the entertaining folk/bluegrass singer with an Appalachian flare, Karen McKay. She is one of the dying breed of ole-time women banjo players. McKay will play from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Cody Wickline, well known in the area as a four-chair turn around on “The Voice,” will provide the country music from 1:30-3 p.m.
Popular local gospel singer Richie Holiday will end the afternoon from 3-4 o’clock.
On Saturday night listen and dance to the sounds of Fallen Rock, a group from Mullens who formed in 1991 and play a variety of classic rock, rock from the ’80s and ’90s, and some country.
Bring your comfy chairs and enjoy the day.
