FAIRLEA (WVDN) – For the second consecutive year, the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans softball season ended at the hands of the St. Albans Red Dragons.
After losing game one on a walk off home run in extra innings, the Spartans could not muster up enough runs in game two and suffered a 6-2 defeat.
St. Albans seized all momentum in the top of the third when Jaden Conrad belted a 2-run home run to left field for a 2-0 lead. The very next batter, Sydney Young followed with a deep shot over the right field fence and the Red Dragons led 3-0 after three.
East was down 6-0 before Rylee Norman got them on the board with an RBI double. Norman had a nice series and went 3-for-7 with two doubles and three RBI’s.
Tayven Stephenson was the winning pitcher for St. Albans. The righthander lasted seven innings, allowed four hits and two runs while striking out nine.
Josi Ervin took the loss for Greenbrier East. She allowed three hits and three runs over three innings, struck out two and walked just one batter. Ervin had a spectacular year and has set herself up for a special senior season.
Ervin, Lilly Carola, Gracie Gumm, Rylee Norman all had one hit to lead Greenbrier East.
St. Albans had five hits. Young and Kiersten Lacy each had multiple hits.
The Spartans said goodbye to seniors Aubrey Glover, Brooke Davis and Norman, and will resume play next season in the Spring of 2023.
East ended their season at 13-12.
