RONCEVERTE (WVDN) – The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans watched the game slip away early and could not get anything going at the plate, finishing without a hit in an 8-0 loss to South Charleston on Thursday, Mar. 17 in the season opener.
South Charleston (1-0) scored on an error during Hallie Dinklocker’s at bat and on a second error in the first inning.
The Spartans struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively with three total errors in the field.
The Black Eagles got on the board in the first inning when an error scored one run for South Charleston.
Alexia Scarberry pitched South Charleston to victory. The senior allowed zero hits and no runs over five innings, striking out 13 and walking one.
Josi Ervin took the loss for Greenbrier East (0-1). The lefthander allowed nine hits and eight runs over four innings, striking out two.
Scarberry led South Charleston with two hits in two at bats. South Charleston played really sound, fundamental defense and did not commit a single error in the field.
Dinklocker led South Charleston with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with seven stolen bases.
East has their opener Friday, March 17 against Princeton and will look for their first victory of the season.
