Talcott Volunteer Fire Department (TFD) is seeking to help some families in their coverage area with their Christmas meal. To do this, they need a bit of help from the community. First, anyone who would like to contribute to this effort has the option of donating either non-perishable food items or money. Also, they are asking for recommendations of families to help. Fire Department members will be putting together “ingredient boxes” to distribute to the families that are chosen. The total number of boxes given will be determined by the number of donations received.
If making a donation of food items, organizers ask that it be non-perishable items with good expiration dates that are appropriate for Christmas dinner. When making a monetary donation by check, organizers ask that you write “Christmas Drive” in the memo line. All donations can be made in one of two ways. Arrangements can be made for a fire department member to meet with you or it can be mailed to TFD Christmas Food Drive, P.O. Box 284, Talcott WV, 24981. Currently, there are three people to contact for pick up; Loyd Lowry, Mandi Lowry and KK Ratliff.
Recommendations for families in need will be taken until Dec. 17. This is a hard deadline and no names will be accepted after this date. To make a recommendation, contact one of the above-listed personnel and they will let you know what information they need. The chosen families will not be told by the fire department who recommended them.
To provide a platform to answer questions regarding this event, organizers have set up a public Facebook group under the title “TFD Christmas Drive.” There are links posted in the group to the three contact people’s profiles to make it easier to message them.
