WHITE SULPHUR SPGS- White Sulphur Springs Elementary School students and staff have a lot to look forward to within the next couple of years. On Tuesday, September 15th, the school broke ground on major improvements to the school, which will include a new physical education space for P.E., assemblies, and community events. “Right under where you all are sitting here on this lawn,” said Principal Tina Campbell to her students, “you all will have a brand-new gym with a place to play and learn.”
Greenbrier County Schools Superintendent Jeff Bryant was in attendance as well, calling this a “long-awaited project” for WSS, and expressing his thanks to the West Virginia School Building Authority, who are providing over $14 million for the improvements. Over $40,000 was also raised by the local community for the project as well.
Not only will the students and staff be getting a new gymnasium, but also a new administrative office, a new HVAC system, new windows, new roofing, and upgrades to the main entrance, restrooms, bus and parent drop-off areas, and parking lots.
A representative from former WV Governor and present Senator Jim Justice’s office was in attendance for the event and delivered the following statement from Justice:
“As this special occasion is celebrated, congratulations are extended to everyone whose vision, dedication, and commitment helped bring this project to fruition. Best wishes for continued success, and a bright future for White Sulphur Springs Elementary”.
