GHENT, W.Va. (WVDN) – New River Community and Technical College will offer Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training beginning Sept. 21, 2026, at the College’s Advanced Technology Center in Ghent.
The eight-week program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to prepare for the Class A CDL licensing exam and pursue careers in the trucking and transportation industry.
Classes will meet Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Advanced Technology Center, located at 527 Odd Road in Ghent.
Additionally, the college will offer an optional Learner’s Prep Week Sept. 14-16 for individuals who want additional preparation and support before taking the exam required to obtain a Class A CDL learner’s permit. Participants may also choose to prepare for and obtain their learner’s permit independently. A valid Class A CDL learner’s permit is required before beginning the full CDL training course, which starts Sept. 21 and combines classroom instruction with hands-on driving experience.
The cost is $4,135 for the Class A CDL course or $4,824 for students who choose to participate in the additional Learner’s Prep Week. A $100 exam fee is also required.
New River CTC’s CDL training is approved for tuition assistance through WorkForce West Virginia’s Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program and the Future Workforce Grant, which may help eligible students cover the cost of training.
