CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – Governor Patrick Morrisey joined family and friends to celebrate the 107th birthday of Virginia Elva Cadd, who is believed to be West Virginia’s oldest living citizen, at Harmony at Southridge.

Watch the celebration here.

“Virginia has lived through more than a century of change and countless historic moments while remaining a treasured part of her family and community,” said Governor Morrisey. “At 107 years young, she continues to live with remarkable independence and a sharp mind. It was a privilege to join her family and friends today as we celebrated an extraordinary West Virginian and an incredible milestone.”

During the celebration, Governor Morrisey presented Cadd with a framed Certificate of Recognition honoring her 107 years and her lifetime as a West Virginian.

Born August 13, 1919, in Nitro, Cadd is the oldest of seven children and has spent much of her life in the Kanawha Valley. She married George Cadd in 1939, and the couple raised three children. They were married for 42 years until George’s passing in 1981.

Cadd worked as a personal shopper at The Diamond Department Store and lived with her family over the years in Charleston, Dunbar, and Cross Lanes. She later became a Charter Member at Harmony at Southridge when the community opened and continues to live independently there today. At 107, Cadd remains active, enjoys reading and visiting with friends, and still does her own laundry.

Governor Morrisey also presented Cadd with a birthday cake on behalf of the State of West Virginia and wished her a happy 107th birthday.
