FAIRLEA- West Virginia native Sierra Ferrell has become one of the most celebrated voices in modern Americana music, blending bluegrass, folk, country, jazz, and old-time influences into a sound that is uniquely her own.
Born in Charleston and raised in West Virginia, Ferrell spent years traveling the country, busking on street corners and performing in small venues before her talent began attracting national attention. That journey led to a recording contract with Rounder Records and the release of her breakthrough album, Long Time Coming, in 2021, which introduced her distinctive songwriting and captivating vocal style to a much wider audience.
Ferrell’s career reached new heights with the release of Trail of Flowers in 2024. The critically acclaimed album earned her four Grammy Awards in 2025, including Best Americana Album, while the songs “American Dreaming” and “Lighthouse” also received Grammy honors. She has also been recognized by the Americana Music Honors & Awards as Emerging Artist of the Year, Artist of the Year and Album of the Year, solidifying her place among the genre’s premier performers. Throughout her rise, Ferrell has become known for sold-out tours, memorable appearances at the Grand Ole Opry, and collaborations with acclaimed artists such as Billy Strings, Post Malone and Lukas Nelson.
Fans will have the opportunity to see the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter perform when she brings her Heavy Petal Tour to the State Fair of West Virginia on Sunday, Aug. 16.
Returning to her home state, Ferrell is expected to showcase fan favorites including “American Dreaming,” “Fox Hunt,” “Jeremiah” and “Lighthouse” in what promises to be one of the fair’s most anticipated concerts of the summer.
