LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) – The Greenbrier Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol is proud to recognize two of its cadets, C/CMSgt Pierre Suteau and C/LtCol Gabriel Bishop, for their selection to highly competitive national summer activities. Civil Air Patrol National Headquarters reported receiving nearly 9,000 cadet applications for approximately 1,800 to 2,000 available slots nationwide, making selection to these programs a significant achievement.

C/CMSgt Pierre Suteau recently attended the National Flight Academy – Texas Wing Shirley Martin Powered Flight Academy in Lubbock, Texas, from June 6-13, 2026. During the academy, Suteau received hands-on flight instruction from Certified Flight Instructors, logging valuable flight experience while learning fundamental aviation skills including takeoffs and landings, stalls, emergency procedures, slow flight, ground reference maneuvers, and other introductory pilot training techniques. He also earned his Pre-Solo badge and will soon solo. Meanwhile, C/LtCol Gabriel Bishop has been selected to attend the Aviation and Aeronautics Business Academy at Vaughn College in Queens, New York, from August 7-15, 2026. The academy will provide exposure to aviation business, entrepreneurship, project management, aerospace innovation, flight and air traffic control simulators, and networking opportunities with industry leaders from organizations including NASA, SpaceX, airport operations, and higher education.

These opportunities reflect the dedication, leadership, and commitment demonstrated by both cadets through their participation in Civil Air Patrol’s cadet program. Their accomplishments showcase the high caliber of young leaders developing within the Greenbrier Composite Squadron and the opportunities available through CAP’s aerospace education and leadership training programs.

About Civil Air Patrol: Civil Air Patrol is the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and a volunteer organization dedicated to emergency services, aerospace education, cadet development, and community service. The Greenbrier Composite Squadron meets every Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Greenbrier Valley Airport in Lewisburg, West Virginia. Youth ages 12-18 and interested adult volunteers are welcome to learn more about membership opportunities.
