LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) — The Education Alliance is proud to announce the expansion of its WV Ready Summer Internship Program into Greenbrier County for the first time, placing a local high school student with the Greenbrier Historical Society in Lewisburg this summer.
The WV Ready Summer Internship Program connects rising high school juniors and seniors with local businesses and organizations for summer internships across a variety of industries, including energy, hospitality, healthcare, arts and design, and more. Interns will work directly with professionals in their chosen field while developing valuable workplace skills and completing a capstone project based on their experience.
The program helps students build resumes, explore careers, and make meaningful connections with employers in their communities. Interns will present a capstone project at the end of their internship, showcasing what they have learned.
This summer marks the program’s first placement in Greenbrier County, reflecting The Education Alliance’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to real-world career experiences for students across a growing footprint of West Virginia communities. Partnering with the Greenbrier Historical Society allows a local student to gain firsthand experience in the nonprofit and cultural heritage sector, an industry not typically represented in traditional internship offerings.

Not only are we gaining an extra member of staff during our busy tourist season, but we are also helping a local high school student gain crucial job experience. Most importantly, we want to foster a deeper love of history and appreciation for museums which will serve Sarah well in whatever she chooses to pursue in the future.”

Programs like this help ensure our young people see a future for themselves right here in our state.” Throughout the internship, the student will work directly with Greenbrier Historical Society staff, gaining exposure to museum operations, archival preservation, community programming, and other facets of running a historical organization.
The Education Alliance hopes this partnership serves as a model for future collaborations with businesses and organizations throughout Greenbrier County, and looks forward to growing the WV Ready Summer Internship Program’s presence in the region in the years ahead.
