Charleston, W.Va. (WVDN) – Governor Patrick Morrisey announced the next phase of West Virginia’s America250 celebration with the launch of a new America250 merchandise line and a statewide bell-ringing initiative honoring the United States’ 250th anniversary.
“West Virginia’s heritage plays a meaningful role in America’s story, and this collection is a great way for us to celebrate that legacy along with America250,” said Governor Morrisey. “We hope folks will join us for the four-day celebration at the Capitol Complex, bring their friends and families, and take home a piece of the America250 merchandise line as a lasting reminder of this historic milestone.”
Preparations are also underway for the nightly 3D light projection show that will illuminate the State Capitol during the state’s four-day America250 Capital City Celebration this July. Specialized drones are currently mapping portions of the Capitol Complex to support development of the large-scale projection experience, which is inspired by the acclaimed Washington Monument display in Washington, D.C.
The commemorative collection includes clothing, coins, hats, pins, mugs, ornaments, and other keepsake items created in collaboration with America250. The merchandise line will be available at West Virginia State Park gift shops and online, with additional items expected to be added to the collection in the coming weeks.
Governor Morrisey also announced the launch of the state’s America250 Bell-Ringing Initiative, inviting churches, schools, veterans organizations, civic groups, and local communities across West Virginia to ring bells in unison at noon on July 4, 2026, in honor of the Declaration of Independence and the founding principles of the United States.
“As we prepare to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, this bell-ringing initiative offers communities across West Virginia an opportunity to come together in recognition of the great freedoms and founding principles that shaped our nation,” said Governor Morrisey. “But it’s just the beginning. We are scheduling events across the State to ensure that every West Virginian – regardless of where they live – has a chance to take part in this historic milestone together and showcase the Mountain State’s patriotism to the rest of the country.”
Communities interested in participating in the bell-ringing initiative are encouraged to complete the online registration form so the state can create an interactive map of ceremonies taking place across the Mountain State.
