HARRIS
Jerry Lee Harris, age 69, of Alderson passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 11, 2021, at the Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg.
He was born on September 30, 1951, in Ronceverte, a son of the late G. Hugh and Alice Mae (Moten) Harris.
After graduating Greenbrier East High School in 1969, Jerry served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. He proudly worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways as a bridge engineer for 37 years, after retiring he worked for TRC contracting. Jerry was involved in the community and many organizations; he was a member of the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church in Alderson, Masonic Lodge #70 AF&AM, The Grand Chapter Royal Arch Mason of WV #21, Greenbrier Commandery #15 Knights Temple, Beni Kedem Shrine, and the Alderson Order of Eastern Star #119.
Jerry will be remembered for his love of farming, hunting, enjoying the great outdoors, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Julia (Crawford) Harris. The couple married on December 30, 2002.
He is also survived by daughters, Leslie and husband, Dr. Jacob Cayanus, of Detroit, MI, Monica Walker of Alderson; his brothers, Garland Hugh Harris and his wife, Sharon, of Alderson and David Harris and his wife, Barbara, of Morgantown; his sister, Sheila Harris, of Alderson; his brother-in-law, John Crawford, of Alderson; his grandchildren, McGuire Reid, Noah Reid, and Avery Reid, of Detroit and Jaydon Carter and Adairean Walker, of Alderson; his uncle, Earl Ray Moten and wife, Wanda, of Peterstown; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Earl Harris and Larry Joe Harris; and his adopted sister, Melinda Boggess Bowden; and grandchild, Corbin Walker.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 16, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church in Alderson, with the Reverend Roger Adams Officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Greenbrier Memorial Cemetery in Alderson, with military funeral honors and Masonic graveside rights conducted by Alderson Masonic Lodge #70 AF&AM. Friends may call Sunday, August 15, 2021 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church in Alderson, and one hour prior to services at the Church on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Peyton Hospice House, 1265 Maplewood Ave., Lewisburg, WV 24901.
