SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. (WVDN) — The Nicholas Performing Arts Council will host a Mother’s Day tribute to the Jazz Age on May 10, featuring celebrated West Virginia singer-songwriter Doris Fields.
Fields, known professionally as Lady D, will perform the life and music of Bessie Smith at the Historic Old Main stage. The performance is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Lady D is a nationally recognized R&B, soul, and blues artist. Her performance honors Smith, the legendary “Empress of Blues,” who rose to prominence in the 1930s as the era’s most popular blues vocalist.
Organizers are billing the event as a “walk back in time” and a unique outing for families celebrating Mother’s Day.
General admission tickets are $20. Due to limited seating, organizers encourage early purchases. Tickets are available at nicholasperformingarts.com, through the council’s Facebook page, or by calling 304-872-3437.
