Lewisburg, W.Va. (WVDN) – Carnegie Hall invites singers, voice teachers, choral musicians, and vocal enthusiasts ages 14 and older to a special free workshop, Vocal Technique for Soloists and Choristers: It’s All About Breathing!, on Saturday, March 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Led by acclaimed conductor, educator, and vocal pedagogue Dr. David Castleberry, this dynamic session will explore one of the most essential—and often most challenging—elements of healthy singing: breath.

Across professional, university, and community settings, voice teachers consistently affirm that effective breathing is the foundation of strong vocal technique. Yet for many singers, mastering breath remains elusive. Through a blend of lecture, demonstration, and guided participation, Dr. Castleberry will introduce proven strategies used in both studio and choral environments to help singers free their voice, expand expressive potential, and improve the individual and collective sound of soloists and ensembles.

With more than four decades of experience working with singers in both solo and choral roles, Dr. Castleberry brings a distinguished career to this workshop. He currently serves as Director of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra Chorus and is Professor of Music Emeritus at Marshall University, where he was a longtime member of the voice faculty. His work as a conductor and vocalist has taken him throughout Europe, North America, and Brazil. Among his many honors are the Marshall and Shirley Reynolds Outstanding Teacher Award, fellowships from the Aspen Choral Institute and Chorus America, and leadership roles including Southern Division President of the American Choral Directors Association, President of West Virginia ACDA, and service on the Editorial Board of Choral Journal. He holds degrees from Furman University and the University of Texas at Austin.

This workshop is free, but registration is required, and space is limited to 40 participants.

To register or for more information visit www.carnegiehallwv.org or call (304) 645-7917.
